Sunday Shuffle
This week on the Sunday Shuffle, ‘101’ by Albert Hammond Jr. This song has been a longtime favorite of mine. As a Strokes side project from the rhythm guitarist, listeners enjoy a twist on the sound of NYC’s (and the world’s) best band. However, it’s not the sound that attracts me to this track. The lyrics are what sets it apart. My favorite line must be ‘I never said to love me back, what was I next to you?’ This sentiment is so tragically clear-sighted that it cuts down to the bone. Albert proves himself as a talented lyricist in this song and the whole album Yours To Keep as well as Como Te Llama. Julian may be the Stroke you fall in love with, but Albert is pretty, and 101 is a testament to that.
